Carbon Copy Cloner (known more conveniently as CCC), lets you make a bootable backup of your Mac OS X hard drive. If you haven’t upgraded to Jaguar yet, you can grab CCC 1.3.1 from the Web site. That version works with Mac OS 10.1.2 through 10.1.5.
